There is no doubt that those from the new emigration who proclaim that the old Russian emigration “did nothing” or “failed to even unite” have not yet understood the situation and living conditions abroad. They have not yet understood how meager the opportunities are open to Russian political emigration in general, if, of course, it wishes to preserve its national independence. Besides this, they are simply not aware of what the Russian political emigration did and did before them. Finally, these critics, apparently, have a prejudice (was it not suggested from behind the hostile scenes?) that the former emigration “does not let them in” somewhere or does not give them some imaginary “places” etc.
In reality, everything is completely different. We have nowhere to “not let” them in, and each of them, like us, will unhinderedly take the place that he can take and deserve, despite countless obstacles that he has not yet understood. Now, as in the future Russia, everything will be determined by the strength of personal character, initiative, intelligence, education and talent.
But one day, when the author of these lines had to hear the categorical and self-confident demand of one defector: “You are obliged to help me get settled, do this and that for me!” - the requester received a truthful answer: “Who are you? and how can you prove to me that, in the spirit of patriotic unanimity, you deserve help? and how can I recommend you when all I know about you is that you have already been to five places and offered your diligent service to British intelligence, a pro-Soviet scientist, a Catholic propaganda man, an anti-Soviet journalist and an Orthodox priest? It will end with everyone thinking you are an NKVD agent...”
To fight, every emigrant must first find an honest income that does not detract from his patriotic independence, and then look for like-minded people and comrades-in-arms for his sincere, genuine and unshakable convictions.
